LAHM PRAISES DEFENCE

Bayern Munich captain Phillip Lahm has said that he is extremely happy at the way that Bayern Munich's defence is performing at the moment.

He has asked the coach Louis van Gaal to alter some tactics in order to make the team powerful in defence. The German voiced his concern as the Munich giants have been conceding a lot of goals recently and have had a poor 2010-11 season after winning the double in the previous campaign.

BAYERN TREAT VISITORS WELL

In Saturday’s match against Hoffenheim, Bayern finally treated their viewers to 90 minutes of football of the highest class. With the Champions League round of 16 just 11 days away, the reigning vice-champions of Europe put on a display that was dominant at both ends of the pitch for the entire match. Two goals in the opening 14 minutes and two more from Arjen Robben after the break confirmed the hosts’ attacking quality, but to be fair, Bayern were also excellent at the back; Hoffenheim were starved of chances in the attacking third, and Thomas Kraft had very little to do en route to his first-ever clean sheet in the Bundesliga.

MUNICH PLAY DOWN CLASH

Bayern Munich have played down the clash between the coach and Philipp Lahm recently. The Dutch winger Robben is said to have grabbed World Cup top scorer Mueller by the throat after the final whistle, allegedly disgusted that Mueller made a disparaging gesture after he executed a late free-kick poorly which he did not want Mueller to take.

'I really hate it when the players throw up their arms in such a way on the pitch. That is not respectful and we shouldn't be doing that,' said Robben.

VILLA INTERESTED IN VAN BOMMEL

Aston Villa are interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Mark Van Bommel who will be out of contract in the summer. The Holland international comes out of contract at the Allianz Arena at the end of the season and is currently considering his options.

Plenty of clubs, including Tottenham, Manchester City and AC Milan, are keen on the hard-tackling midfielder and now Gerard Houllier’s Villa are showing considerable interest.

ROBBEN LOOKS FORWARD

Arjen Robben has said that his return from injury would not solve Bayern Munich's problems. The Dutch winger stresses that he's been sidelined for quite a while and that he needs time to find his best form.

"I know that people expect Bayern Munich to mount a serious title challenge again once I return and I do want to be playing an important role for the team as soon as possible," Robben told the club's official website.

SCHWEINSTEIGER SIGNS FOR BAYERN

Bastian Schweinsteiger has signed a new deal with German Giants Bayern Munich. Schweinsteiger, 26, had been linked with a summer move to Manchester United, with his previous deal having been due to expire at the end of next season.

But he has now committed his future to the German champions and took to the microphone minutes after the full-time whistle in the 3-0 win over St Pauli to inform the club's fans of the news.

In quotes reported on club website: he told fans at the Allianz Arena: ''I've extended my contract and I'm staying with Bayern until 2016. Long live Bayern!'

UNITED INTERESTED IN BAYERN STAR

Manchester United are interested in signing Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger in the January transfer window according to reports. The Germany international's contract with the Bundesliga club expires in 2012, and there have been suggestions that the 26-year-old could make a move away from the club.

Now The Mirror claims that United are pondering making a £12m swoop to land their target, amid interest from Chelsea as well as Manchester City.

BUTT DEMANDS IMPROVEMENT

Butt has demanded improvements from defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich to turn the corner. A 0-0 draw at home to Cologne at the weekend followed the same result against Werder Bremen a week earlier.

Before that, Bayern Munich lost 2-0 at Kaiserslautern and can count themselves somewhat fortunate to have beaten Wolfsburg with a late goal on the opening day of the season.

All that is too little, given their ambitions, and Butt has called on his team-mates, who reached the UEFA Champions League final last season, to put things right.

NAPOLI SIGN SOSA

Bayern Munich's Sosa has been signed by Italian club Napoli. "Sosa is going to continue his career at the foot of Vesuvius," Bayern Munich confirmed in a statement.

Sosa won Olympic gold with Argentina in 2008, a year after joining Bayern, with whom he had one year of his contract remaining.

In three seasons in the Bundesliga he has competed in 35 games, scoring three goals.

At Napoli Sosa can look forward to taking part in the Europa League where the Italian team's group rivals are Liverpool, Steaua Bucharest and Utrecht.

BAYERN NOT TO RISK STARS

Louis van Gaal has said that Germany should not risk playing Bayern Munich stars in the Denmark friendly. Louis van Gaal said that the match was much too soon for his players, who have only recently returned from the World Cup tournament in South Africa.

Bayern Munich players who played on Germany’s international squad include Miroslav Klose, Mario Gomez, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller and Philipp Lahm.
