Lewandowski looking forward to Leroy Sane joining Bayern Munich
Poland international Robert Lewandowski has publicly said that he is looking forward to Leroy Sane joining Bayern Munich from Manchester City this summer. The Germany international has won the Premier League title in back-to-back seasons with the Citizens but he has still been fancied to pursue a new challenge after finding himself regularly on the bench during the final stages of the previous campaign.
Speaking to Goal.com, Lewandowski said that the German players within the Bayern setup are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Sane, though no agreement has been struck by the respective sides, he told the outlet: “Bayern's German players are now very much looking forward to Sane's signing, but we have to wait and see what is going on.”
Meanwhile, Lewandowski acknowledged that the club have lost two main figures in the form of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, but he is confident that won’t hamper the progress of the club, he added: “They are legends, of course their departure is sad. But Bayern will also sign more and better replacements. I believe that the winger Bayern will sign in the future will be as good as Robben and Ribery.”
Sane found himself on the substitutes’ bench during the final months of the previous campaign with manager Pep Guardiola choosing to feature Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva for the wide attacking positions. There are no assurances that the same may change, considering the rich vein of form of the attacking duo and that may tempt Sane to part ways with the club.
Still, Bayern need to find a breakthrough with the Citizens for the Germany international and they may have to break their transfer record to do so. In the recent campaign, Sane contributed 16 goals and 18 assists for Manchester City from 47 appearances across all competitions.
