Bayern chief believes Benjamin Pavard could be an outstanding signing for the club

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness believes Benjamin Pavard could emerge as one of the best signings for the German champions. The versatile defender made the move from Stuttgart during the summer transfer window and he has since quickly adapted to Bayern’s style of play while contributing a goal and an assist.

Speaking to German TV channel Sport 1, Hoeness said that he has been pleased with the performances of Pavard during the opening phase of the campaign. He added that there are no doubts regarding the Frenchman’s quality and he will end up being one of the best ever signings for the Bavarian giants, he told: “He has already shown after a few weeks that he will be one of the best transfers that we’ve ever made. For me, what a player costs isn’t what matters. It was clear to me that he could be an outstanding signing – particularly because of his great character.”
Pavard has the ability to feature in both the central defensive and right-back positions but Bayern have preferred to play him in the latter of those roles. So far, the Frenchman has been flawless with his performances without any major blunders and he has the opportunity to cement the spot for the long-term, provided he can maintain his consistency.

Bayern made the worst possible start to the season as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup before playing out a 2-2 draw against Hertha Berlin in the league opener. However, they have since gathered momentum with comfortable wins and they are currently two points behind RB Leipzig at the top of the league standings. Bayern are scheduled to face newly-promoted Paderborn on the road this weekend and they should expect another victory. Paderborn have struggled on their first-ever promotion to the top-flight and they are currently rooted to the bottom of the table with just one point on the board.
