Bayern Munich Could Go on to Lift the Champions League, Claims Former Defender

Former Bayern Munich defenderBixenteLizarazu thinks that Bayern Munich are starting to produce the consistency and form that would take them to the Champions League title.

Since the arrival of manager Carlo Ancelotti, there has been a feeling that Bayern Munich were not yet 100% right. Ancelotti was bringing a change in management after three years of Pep Guardiola. It also meant that the club had to undergo vast changes in style, as Guardiola uses an extremely different philosophy in terms of tactics, style of play, and training methods. Ancelotti is very laid back in his approach.

The Italian has undoubted pedigree when it comes to the Champions League after having won the title two times as a coach and with two teams. He has also been successful in this competition as a player. Bayern Munich, however, were handed a difficult tie in the last 16 stage of the competition after being paired up alongside Premier League outfit Arsenal.

Even though Arsenal have not been a force to reckon with in the Champions League, they have always been regarded as a good team. Yet, not many forecasted the 5-1 mauling achieved by the German outfit over Arsenal. It has put the club on the verge of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the competition.

Lizarazu thinks that it is even possible for the club to win the title for the first time since 2013. "In the first half, after the first goal scored by Robben, there was a moment of doubt with the Arsenal penalty, but Bayern were clearly the better team, and prepared better for this game. So I don't have any doubt about the qualification for the quarter-finals and I think that Bayern can do very well in the Champions League," said Lizarazu. Bayern Munich have a seven point advantage over RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga table.
